| Our Easter Range
However, it's origins lie in Mothering Sunday, the fourth Sunday in Lent. Young girls working "in service" went home to visit their mothers on this day, taking a simnel cake with them. If the cake remained moist and tasty until Easter Sunday, she was seen to be a good cook!

At Easter we sell traditional Easter cookies and a variety of special cakes, as well as hand-made greetings cards and gifts. 
Simnel cake, a rich, spicy fruit cake with a layer of almond paste running through the centre of the cake and topped with roasted almond paste, is a traditional Easter cake. 
The word simnel comes from the Latin word "simila" which means fine flour. It is decorated with eleven small balls of almond paste said to represent The Apostles - with the exception of Judas who betrayed Jesus.
